Go green with - Compost Bins, Rain Barrels and Farmers' Markets
This week is National Agriculture Week - recognizing and celebrating the contributions of agriculture to American society. In Maryland, one-third of the land mass is farmland. In 2011, Maryland farmers produced 40 million pounds of apples, 569 million eggs, and 3.9 million tons of peaches - just to name a few of the products grown here!
The Maryland Department of Agriculture shares several suggestions to recognize National Agriculture Week. In looking over their list...I realized that THE AVENUE will be hosting a few events that tie into these efforts so I wanted to pass them along...
1. Try Composting! On Saturday, April 27th, THE AVENUE will host Baltimore County's Truckload Sale from 9am - 3pm - offering the community the opportunity to purchase Earth Machine Compost Bins for $35.00 ($100 value). This Truckload sale will be held rain or shine on the auxilliary lot off of Town Center Drive (behind AMC Theatres).
3. Shop Farmers' Markets! THE AVENUE at White Marsh Farmers' Market will open July 5th and continue every Friday, 10am -1pm through October. Local produce, fruit, plants and baked goods are available behind Staples and AC Moore. This Market is comprised of "producers" only. So, you're purchasing directly from the local farmer who planted and grew what you will be serving for dinner!
